Hello guys,

This is Yuriy from LinkMatch (PCRecruiter official partner).

Does PCRecruiter support Roman, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai characters?

I’m getting “???” instead of mentioned characters in PCRecruiter Web UI after modifying and saving fields.

Also, when I’m making search through API, I’m getting blank results when any of mentioned characters are in query string. If these characters removed from query, API search working well. Is there any workaround for this issue?

Also, some version of Roman letters are not supported, and immediately converted after save(as shown below);

ă, â, á, é, í, î, ı,ó, ẹ, ị, ọ, ụ, ã, ả, ẻ, ỉ, ỏ, ủ, ñ, č, ď, ě, í, ň, ř, š, ș, ť, ț, ú, ů, ž and đ.

a, â, á, é, í, î, i,ó, ?, ?, ?, ?, ã, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ñ, c, d, e, í, n, r, š, ?, t, ?, ú, u, ž and d.

Thanks in advance!

What database are you connecting to? Is it just a test database? It likely does not have the proper database collation.

Thank you. I am checking with the DB admins to see how that database is set up. While I await a response, can you email me a sample request in attachment with the following which I can review(wayne@mainsequence.net).

The same problem with symbols present in WEb interface(on https://www2.pcrecruiter.net/pcr.asp?uid=odbc.linkmatch). For example ẹ, ị, ọ, ụ converted to ?, ?, ?, ?

also, when search request contains something like this 曹聪(
e.g. query:((LastName co Smith) OR (LastName co Rice) OR (LastName co 曹聪))), search always returns no results despite the fact Smith and Rice present in PCR ats;

That Database is just a sample database and is not set up to support all character sets.

Is that the entire query you are submitting or is that just one portion? If you are just those items for the query the following should suffice for the query param in the URL.

query=LastName co Smith OR LastName co Rice OR LastName co 曹聪

Also, are you URL encoding the search characters properly? For Example.
query= LastName%20co%20Smith%20OR%20LastName%20co%20Rice%20OR%20LastName%20co%20%E6%9B%B9%E8%81%AA

Hi again, its Linkmatch. Wayne, can you provide us with a full-featured database, so we can test for possible issues with special characters in users?

Our DB team created additional databases for testing. Who should I send this information to?

I have tried International db, and “special” characters work just fine. Thanks a lot for creating account.

You have mentioned , that “standard database is the one a majority of our clients have set up”. Are users able to choose which version of db they want, or it supplied automatically with their subscription plan?
Does this also mean that majority of PCR users can’t save their candidates with special characters i’ve mention in prevoius posts(characters are automatically replaced by ordinary one or ? sign)?
Thanks for help!

And we have few additional questions.
Can users choose between the DBs when they already have standard? Can they do conversion?

And can we detect through API or by other means what type od DB user use?

Users pick which database to log into from the login screen. Typically clients only have one primary database which they use but some clients will have more than one database which users work from if they are working in multiple industries.

Currently there is no api call to determine the database type.

By “Can they do a conversion” do you mean convert the database collation?

I mean , can customer convert standart DB to DB that supports international characters?

Avatar

Clients are usually set up based on what their needs are. It can be done but it will cause them to be “offline” for a period of time.

so , users can do the conversion to DB with international characters on their own ?
can conversion lead to data loss?

Avatar

Wayne-PCRecruiter

We have to do the conversion for them. It is not something they can trigger. They have to reach out to us. I don’t know of any data loss but there will be downtime while we convert the data for them.
